What is protective lens on the laser welding machine?

How to confirm if the protective lens is damaged?
The following two situations often accompany this issue:
1.Upon initial startup, the laser typically operates, but it gradually weakens until it is no longer able to melt the welding wire.
2.There is a noticeable flame at the welding nozzle.
When the above situation occurs, it can be initially determined that the protective lens inside the welding torch is damaged.
Nevertheless, it is still in the process of determining which set of protective lenses is defective, whether it is the protective lenses, the focusing lenses, the collimating lenses, the reflectors, or any one or more of these lenses. When a malfunction occurs, the situation described above will occur. The order of inspection of the lenses is to replace the protective lenses first, then the focusing lenses, then the reflectors and collimating lenses, and replace them according to the results of the inspection.
Visible flames from welding copper nozzles are likely to be a focusing problem.
Finally check the laser QBH connector for contamination or damage.

How do I replace the protective lens, reflector lens, and focusing lens of my laser welding gun?
1. Protection Window
Location: Front end of the welding gun, directly exposed to welding spatter.
Replacement Steps:
a. Loosen the lens retaining ring using a dedicated wrench (typically counterclockwise rotation).
b. Remove the contaminated lens with a vacuum pick-up tool or tweezers (avoid finger contact with the optical surface).
c. Blow out residual debris inside the lens housing using clean, oil-free compressed air.
d. Clean the new lens with high-purity acetone (99.9%), then install it with the coated side facing the laser beam direction. Tighten the retaining ring to the manufacturer's specified torque (excessive force may crack the lens).
2. Reflection Mirror
Location: Laser beam turning point (e.g., articulation joint of the welding gun).
Replacement Steps:
a. Remove the mirror cover plate (note screw positions to ensure correct reassembly).
b. Carefully lift the old mirror by its edges using a lens holder. Inspect the mount for signs of thermal damage (replace if necessary).
c. Install the new mirror with the reflective surface aligned to the laser beam angle (usually indicated by an arrow mark). Secure it with a torque screwdriver as specified (e.g., 0.6-1.2 N·m).
3. Focusing Lens
Location: Inside the welding gun, near the nozzle assembly.
Replacement Steps:
a. Remove the nozzle and copper tip to expose the lens assembly.
b. Unscrew the focusing lens barrel using a lens spanner (check thread direction-some brands use reverse threads).
c. If the old lens is stuck, soak it in acetone for 5 minutes before removal.
d. Before installing the new lens, verify its surface flatness with a laser interferometer (tolerance < λ/10, where λ is the laser wavelength).
